"Taken" by Anya Bast – Review

I first got to know of Anya Bast’s books when she was doing promotional blog tours for her book “Chosen Sin”, which I have in my TBR. I’ve followed her blog since and thought her newly published e-book novella “Taken”, might be a good read. Ms. Bast didn’t disappoint.

“Taken” is described as a paranormal romance with a ménage a trios theme. However, I would say it is could well be considered as sci-fi / fantasy.

Caleb and Van, two handsome men from the planet Harmon, rescue Anne an earth woman when she is being pursued by one of their enemies. Anne initially believes she has been kidnapped by two “bat shit” crazy hotties when they tell her they are from another planet and she is their soul mate. Harmon has been at war for centuries and the women of the planet who can bear female children are being identified and exterminated by their enemies, resulting in a systematic annihilation of their people.

Earth women such as Anne capable of bearing female children are identified as mates for Harmon men who then go through a portal that joins the two realities to find them. Anne is a lawyer and a very intelligent, independent woman. Needless to say she is less than incline to become a brood mare for these two guys who think they are aliens and determined to woo her.

What I really loved about this short story is that Caleb and Van slowly build a bond of trust and love with Anne. The sexual tension built to the boiling point between these characters before they consummate their relationship.

I also found Ms. Bast’s descriptive prose very good, I could visualize Harmon as a beautiful place that was similar to earth in some ways but very different in others.

I’m looking forward to reading more of Ms. Bast’s stories.

    Hey Lea,

Great review. I recently purchased ‘Witch Fire’ by Ms. Bast. The first chapter excerpt was really good. Have you checked it out on her website?

I wish this were in a printed book form instead of ebook form. I read part of this on Samhain’s website last month and LOVED IT, but I didn’t purchase it cause I am TERRIBLE with ebooks. I just don’t seem to be able to sit and read books online, I have to have them in print it.

Ohh, I’ve seen this one on mybookstoreandmore.com. I think I might have to pick it up. I haven’t read an ebook this month and there is another one I want to get so I think I’ll add this one to the order!

    Hi VFG:

This novella was a nice easy read and I really like Ms. Bast’s voice. I have read the synopsis etc. on her website and her “witch” stories sound really good too.

I thought I’d start with this one and “Chosen Sin”, and see from there.

Let me know what you think of “Witch Fire”.

    Hi Barbara:

Sorry but this is a e-book, it's available from MB&M. If you click on the title in my little review it will take you to the site.

    Thanks for your comment Barbara.

    Hi Blanche:

I know, I would have liked to read more too. But I knew it was a novella and picked it up as a “filler” so expected it to be short. lol

Maybe Ms. Bast will revisit this world again. (It would be nice).

    Thanks Blanche!

    Hi Ms. Moonlight:

I know what you mean girl! Before I got my e-reader I didn’t enjoy e-books either. I even printed a couple of them out so I could lay in bed and read them -lol (and I’m a tree hugger so you’ve got to know that’s desperation – lol)

This one is #1 on the best seller list over at Samhain, so you gotta know it will come out in print eventually though. :)

    Thanks for your comment!

    Hi Amy:

If you get it, I really hope you enjoy it. The story is a nice quick read and as I said, there is a lovely tone to it.

I did really like the way she built the relationship between the characters.

    Thanks for your comment Amy!

A new author, I’ve been interested of her witches… I like print books…. No e-reader yet!

    Hey Amy:

Yeah, this one is a “slow burn”, so to speak. – lol

You know me, I luv that “menage action”. LOL

    Hey Eva:

This one isn’t out in print yet, but as I said to Ms. Moonlight, I’m sure it will be because it is selling so well. :)

Hope all is well with you.
